What's your favorite kind of tea?
Looking for actual recommendations with brands and links and whatnot if you have them, it's cold out there
@ian I’m quite fond of Upton Tea’s “CTC Irish Breakfast Blend” ( https://www.uptontea.com/breakfast-tea-blends/irish-breakfast-loose-leaf-black-tea/p/V00088/ ), with milk and sugar. Upton sells sample packets if you want to get some to try stuff. Also I like the mesh infusers they sell.
@ian Postcard Teas' Keemun Needles are superlative. ^_^

@ian One I drink a LOT of is Tazo Zen tea - it's a blend of green and mint and lemongrass, and perfect for sipping all afternoon.
@ian Rare Tea Cellar's Crema Earl Grey https://rareteacellar.com/collections/black/products/crema-earl-grey
@ian https://www.adagio.com/oolong/ti_kuan_yin.html is my clear favorite. Pricey, but you can get 5 to 7 steepings from the same leaves. It's now my daily driver.
@ian The Cozy Tea Cart has some great choices, but this one is my absolute favorite https://www.thecozyteacart.com/shop/teas/flavored-black-tea/earl-grey-lavender-loose-tea/
@ian Just plain old PG Tips. Tried many others, always come back
@ian i'm just a boring old former Texan, so Southern Breeze makes pre-sweetened tea bags and i am here for it
🛩️
@ian I know it's nothing particularly exotic or fancy, but we drink Twinings daily in this house, and the earl grey is a daily driver
@ian This one from Atticus is one of my favorites: https://www.atticustea.com/store/Samurai-Chai-p411662665
@ian I'm very basic, Twinings Darjeeling is one of my favorites, even when I have access to fancy tea shops.
@ian Twinings for English Breakfast & Pukka for licorice and perremint https://www.pukkaherbs.com/us/en/category/organic-teas
@ian this is my current fav https://www.republicoftea.com/cardamom-cinnamon-herbal-tea/p/v00677/
@ian I love any Assam, but these are two of my favorites
https://www.theteaspot.com/products/assam-tea-organic
@ian for commonly available, Trader Joe's Irish Breakfast is fantastic. The English Breakfast is pretty good too.
@ian I like tea from Harney and Sons. Scottish Morn and Irish Breakfast are my go to flavors. My wife got me hooked.
@ian David’s use to make a mulled wine tea that was a fav. Not there anymore, but here’s the site for what they do have: https://www.davidstea.com
@ian I’ve enjoyed every random oolong I’ve gotten from https://www.teasider.com/oolong
I’ve got a bunch of furry crab they don’t stock anymore that’s delicious
@ian big fan of almost everything I’ve tried from Harney. This is my go to https://www.harney.com/products/vanilla-comoro-20-sachet-tin

https://boingboing.net/2022/05/23/trader-joes-100-ginger-juice-drink-mix-is-great-for-cooking.html this stuff is excellent added to something like lemon zinger. better than ginger teas
https://www.davidstea.com/us_en/tea/pumpkin-chai/10776US01VAR0056938.html i think the sprinkles fool me into thinking this is better than it is
https://www.amazon.com/Tea-Czar-Nikolas-Premium-Black/dp/B00N4Z5TI6 workhorse tea. gives strength to persevere. best made with traditional zavarka method
@ian This bengal space kind is decaf and somehow tastes sweet without any sugar. Definitely recommend https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PACT626/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
@ian I've found myself sufficiently pleased with "Boston's Mint in Tea" that I tend to buy it by the case (6x 50-count boxes), using it to make hot tea in the winter, and iced tea the rest of the year. If mint tea is your thing, it's a fresh/natural mint flavor, not an artificial candy-cane mint as many tend to be.
@ian Rooibos with a teaspoon of honey 🥰 Tick Tock is the brand I get, but supermarket-brand hasn’t been bad :) Also Pukka Night Time Tea is lovely! I’ll spare the links cos I’m in the UK, but here are some screenshots ✨
@ian self-made ginger tea. 3-5 slices of ginger root per cup. Done. Good for refills, Depending on laziness add lemon juice, honey, …
@ian @ian it really depends on the season. If I could only pick one it'd be a a toss up between white or oolong though.
If your looking to find your own taste:
What-cha has a good selection
Red Blossom is more expensive but very good
Northern lights tea is local to Minneapolis
The type of tea you want will depend on if you prefer earthy or floral tastes. Can share favorites if you know what your looking for a bit.
If you don't know, start with a tasting collection: https://redblossomtea.com/products/discovery-collection
@ian
Barry's. Bog standard Irish teabags. I prefer them over any British ones, despite living in Britain and being English.
@ian drinking this right now. It’s delicious. Mildly caffeinated. And low acidity. https://www.teasource.com/products/machu-peach-u-white-tea-blend
@ian it’s a bit expensive to ship from France, but it’s my favorite https://www.mariagefreres.com/UK/1-marco_polo_french_tea.html
@ian without a doubt Murchie's No.10 Blend. Murchies is a very fine tea shop that has existed in Vancouver for ages. One of my best childhood memories is the smell of the shop.
@ian I am a fan of Earl Grey, Bigelow does a decent enough job for me to keep their packets in the house so that I have a brand that I know will be around the next time I go to buy more unlike a lot of other brands I've run into over time which very often are better, but burn out rather quickly and disappear from shelves. I'd also suggest Bigelow's Constant Comment, which was included in a box of Earl Grey I bought forever ago and only drank out of desperation at the time, but found it to be a brilliant spiritual successor to what I bought.
@ian Anything from the Teekampagne (sustainable and fair trade), especially the FTGFOP black and earl grey teas. Also, Twining's Lady grey (a bit softer/sweeter).
@ian I recommend Harney & Sons Paris blend
https://www.harney.com/products/paris-tea
@ian Anything from Harney & Sons - though I am partial to their regular old Irish Breakfast tea.
@ian this is a highly complex question that has a lot of parameters but if I had to recommend a tea brand it’s Harney and Sons
the genmai-cha, sencha and matcha from ippodo (https://global.ippodo-tea.co.jp/), whichever tieguanyin silk road has that looks interesting/affordable (https://www.silkroadteas.com) are go-tos for me. have a lot of other teas that are much more a mood/subjective choice.
white2tea.com also has very interesting teas if the bug bites you.
@ian Mighty Leaf’s Lapsang Souchong is super smokey and warm!
@ian Nothing exotic, but I'm a daily drinker of Harney & Sons' Earl Grey:
https://www.harney.com/products/earl-grey
@ian adagio has "jasmine phoenix pearls" green tea and a ginger tea that were really nice, if you like that sort of thing.
most of the time this year, it's just grocery-shelf green or jasmine tea
@ian if you like soft in taste black tea, Kenyan Milima kind is the best.
@mwmarkland @ian 100 - we graduated from English breakfast to Irish breakfast to Scottish morn. Paris is another one that has a strong afternoon tea rotation
@ian Oh, and greek mountain tea. It's a special kind of sage, much less tasting like... medicine, more herby. This + honey is bliss. Take any brand, there's not much of a difference IMHO.
@ian Also: Stash vanilla chai ☕️ https://www.stashtea.com/products/vanilla-chai-decaf-black-tea-bagged
@ian longjing tea (aka dragon well) it's a green tea and it's just lovely
