"I highly recommend Holst's 'The Planets'. It is not only pleasant to listen to, but contains a balance of climactic and calm passages for a wide variety of activity. For example, during the Mars section, the victim can be given a thorough work over; then during the Venus section, you might switch to milder torture or even cuddling. The possibility of combinations is very broad."

The editor adds: "I also like 'The Planets' for scenes. Another favorite is Khachaturian's ballet 'Spartacus'. One of the best playroom tapes I have is 'Flute de Pan et Orgue' (Pan pipes and organ) by Gheorghe Zamfir and Marcel Cellier. This is the music that was used in the film 'Picnic at Hanging Rock', very eerie but with a variety of moods and tempos."

Okay woofers, anyone want to try these out and report back? 😋

(I feel like the only way to do this is to lay out your implements, grab your bottom, and put on the music without ever having heard it before. This pan flute thing is cracking me up.)

Perhaps ... Some music could only be taken seriously in the 80s...

@aphyr “enjoy the playfulness while its there boy. When the music stops, the camera will turn off, and the knives will come out. So enjoy. That. Music..”

@aphyr this recording is actually murdering me Kyle. Whoever's idea it was to combine "Picnic at Hanging Rock" with kink is a genius

@quinn I'm still listening to it and taking continuous psychic damage. I want to sneak this onto the dungeon playlist at Inferno and watch the entire run collapse into laughter and demands for my impalement. "Fledermaus told me to," I'll explain. "It's honoring his legacy" 🤣🤣🤣

@aphyr I love the "The Planets" but can't imagine doing a scene to it. When I think music during scenes, I imagine something more... threatening? The two pieces that come to mind for me are Pictures at an Exhibition (Mussorgsky) and the Devil's Trill Sonata (Tartini). As a classical musician I'm probably going to think about this way too much.

@aphyr It's hard to take anything with pan flute seriously.

A version of Mars I considered for a contest fantasy. I used Fortuna instead. Sorry not sure how to drop the sound here directly.

@aphyr I’m now trying to figure out which recording they most likely used for this. The location has me wondering if it was the 1971 Boston Symphony Orchestra

@aphyr i’m listening to this album on youtube, intermittently breaking out into uncontrolled laughter. then reading the comments, sounds like it had a real… effect on lots of lads / lasses.
