Free game design idea from Sylvia (age 8): a game called "I Am Egg" where you play as an egg that rolls around on a counter. You try to avoid obstacles, complete quests such as "knock over the jam jar on the shelf", and ultimately roll out the window, where you win by falling to the ground, cracking, and hatching as a bird who then flies away as the credits roll.
(She adds, "if you're wondering how the egg gets on the shelf: the egg can jump!")
I just told Sylvia about what "egg mode" meant and explained that her game's story could be a trans allegory, and she thought about that and then said "I'll make a sequel called 'I Am Bird'" ❤️
@lindsey impressed that Sylvia understands eggs as trans metaphor when, at her age, I didn’t even know that eggs were edible
@dan I really did not like eggs as a child. My dad used to sing "Eggs, eggs, eggs. A great big bowl of eggs. And another big bowl, and another big bowl, and another big bowl of eggs", to the tune of "Another One Bites the Dust", just to annoy me, because he knew how I felt about eggs. My grandmother would make this quiche-y scrambled eggs dish with strips of bacon buried inside, and I hated that I had to dig through the horrible eggs to get to the good bacon.
@lindsey ...she never saw any of the now-ancient Dizzy games, right?
