Next fedi question! If I post something with Markdown like this, and tag it in my Akkoma editor as being Markdown… do you see this message formatted, or unformatted, or does the post just disappear on you??

@matchu looks like plaintext in toot!. also how are you liking akkoma? i felt like pleroma was enough for me and couldn’t really tell what the added benefit was beyond reactions (which toot! doesn’t support :/)

@nsfmc it's nice!! mostly I don't know enough to really tell the difference, but mainly when I started my research I saw that pleroma was mired in sociopolitical complications and I was like… cool ok fork gaining a baseline amount of traction and explicitly antifascist philosophy, that's a good starting point for me lol

@matchu yeah i clearly did not encounter the complications beyond dealing with elixir

@nsfmc yeah my understanding is that the dev community became a bit of a haven for the worst elements of "free speech" absolutism, and the leaders were quite slow to act, to the point where a lot of trust got burned and a lot of the people who are very firm-no on that kind of stuff moved on

I found the part of the spec that explains this!! Yes indeed, there’s a content field and a source field. The example in the spec shows the content as HTML, so I wonder if mine are being sent out as HTML and other clients are stripping it away for presentational consistency? that would be reasonable!!

yes indeed, now that I’ve made my activitypub viewer, I can see that the post I’m replying to has HTML as the content, and text/markdown media for the source!

I don’t immediately know whether Masto strips the HTML, or is just barely aware enough of text/markdown to do the normalization to that? But I would guess the former, since you probably want that behavior in general anyway
